Post-Installation: The Discipline of the Service Partnership

There is a moment, on every project, when the field van leaves the property for the last time. Tools are loaded. The driveway is swept. Final dust is cleared from the rack room. Most of the residence sleeps that night with a system that is, strictly speaking, finished. Most integrators count that as the end of the project. We count it as the beginning of the relationship.

The next twelve months are, in our experience, the months that determine whether the residence is well-served. There will be questions. There will be small calibrations the household had not thought to ask for in advance. There will be a daughter home from college who wants the cinema configured for a particular streaming service. There will be a six-month walk-through where seasons have shifted and the lighting curve needs a small adjustment. Each of these is small. None of them is optional. All of them are, in aggregate, the actual work of an integrator.

We staff against this reality. Every household has a named concierge — not a queue, not an automated ticket. The concierge knows the principal, knows the household staff, knows the housekeeper's name and the dog's name. When the household calls, the response is quiet and immediate. When the household does not call but our monitoring catches an anomaly, we call them — and we lead with what we have already done about it.

The cadence we hold to is straightforward. Weekly proactive review of every residence's monitoring data. Monthly firmware testing in our laboratory. Quarterly residence-by-residence stewardship reviews. Seasonal walk-throughs at the principal's convenience. Annual on-site recalibration of every theater and circadian curve. We document each of these in the binder that lives at the property; the principal does not need to remember a thing.

There is a version of this practice — common in our industry — that monetizes the service partnership through a stream of small invoices. We do not. Our service is a single annual concierge fee, scaled to the residence, with no marginal billing for the small work. The household should not hesitate to call about a small thing because the small thing might appear on a bill. The small things, attended to early, are how a residence stays beautifully maintained for fifteen years.

The deepest measure of a service partnership is whether the household feels held. We aim — explicitly, programmatically — for them to feel held. The system in the wall is, in some sense, only the artifact of the relationship that surrounds it. The relationship is the firm.

We staff against this reality.

Every engagement begins with a private conversation — often under NDA, always without obligation. We would be honored to hear about the residence you are composing.
